Egg biryani is one of the simple and most flavorful biryani you can make at home with few ingredients. If you have less time when someone is visiting to your home, then it is the best choice which can be served with different types of raita mint traits, or onion raita along with some papad.
This is the only meal I will prepare for my family when I don’t have time to prepare chicken or mutton biryani.
Making egg biryani in a rice cooker is not a dum biryani process .but this will give good flavor and taste. This is prepared in an electric rice cooker whereas making biryani in a traditional method by keeping layer by layer along with dum is a very time taking process, which is suitable when you have more time for cooking.
I shifted to making egg biryani in a rice cooker from last year, which gave me the same taste as the dum biryani process. Since that time, I have been cooking biryani in the rice cooker within in some time.
Vegetarians can replace the egg with paneer, mushroom, or soya bean, which will be similar in taste and aroma.
Ingredients
To make egg biryani in a rice cooker, take all these ingredients to one place before cooking.
- Eggs: 5 eggs, you can take any type, but organic eggs will be best for egg biryani.
- Spice Powders: The flavor in the biryani we get by this mix of all spices., and biryani masala. Biryani masala is optional which you can avoid if you don’t like heavy flavors.
- Biryani Rice: 2 cups of food quality long grain basmati rice.
- 2 cups of water.
- 2 tablespoons of oil or ghee.
- 1 medium size chopped onion.
- 3 green chilies chopped.
- 1 tablespoon of ginger garlic paste.
- 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds.
- Salt to taste.
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnishing.

Wash eggs under running water. Pour water into a pan and slowly place eggs in water and cover it with lids and boil them on medium flame until you see cracks on the eggs.
Please turn off the stove and keep it aside for 5 min, drain the water and keep it in cold water. Remove shells and make two-three slits on them and keep them aside.
Boiling eggs in an Instant pot
Pour one and a half cups of water into the pot. Place a rack in the pot and keep eggs gently on the rack.
Cover the pot with a steel lid and press the button and cook it for 5 mins. After the 5 mins, let it release pressure naturally and remove eggs carefully from the pot and rinse in cold water. Peel the shells and make slits as instructed.
How to make Egg Biryani in Rice Cooker?
Follow these instructions after boiling eggs in the cooker or the pot.
Step 1: Wash and rinse long-grain basmati rice in cold water. Which helps in removing excess starch from rice and to prevent the rice from sticking together after cooking.
Step 2: Heat oil or ghee in the cooker and add chopped onion to it. Cook them until it becomes soft. Add chopped green chilies, ginger garlic paste, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder. Cook them for two minutes on medium flame.
Step 3: Add washed rice into the rice cooker and saute with the mixture. Then add two cups of pot water to the rice cooker and stir them gently.
Step 4: Add boiled eggs on top of the rice mixture and press them.
Step 5: Turn on the rice cooker and cook biryani in similar rice cooking settings until water is fully absorbed from the cooker, which may take 25–20 minutes.
Step 6: After cooking open the rice cooker cover and mix it with a spoon and garnish with coriander leaves.
Serving Options
- You can serve egg biryani with onion raita and papad.
- If you don’t like only rice, you can add vegetable curry If you are a vegetarian, or you can try chicken or mutton if you are a non-vegetarian
Tips to make delicious egg biryani in rice cooker
- Soak basmati rice after washing it at least for 20 – 30 minutes.
- Choose ghee instead of oil, which adds flavor to the biryani. Most of the time, I use homemade ghee.
- Use whole spices like cumin and bay leaves, which will add lots of flavor to the biryani.
- Eggs should not become hard after boiling in water.
