How To Make Sprouts Curry At Home

Sprouts are the powerhouse of nutrients. Here you will get all the essential nutrients for your body in one food. This is a one of the popular ingredient in many cuisines across the world.

You can make this curry with one type of sprouts, or you can use mixed sprouts, which I use most of the time when I make this recipe. If you like gravy, make this as “sabzi” or you can make it dry if you prefer.

Most of the time, I serve it with chapati or Naans. It will be a better combination with Dal curry and rice also.

1 cup of mixed sprouts (mung beans, moth beans, chickpeas, lentils, etc.)

1 tablespoon cumin seeds

1 onion, finely chopped

1 tomato, finely chopped

2 green chilies, finely chopped 

1 tablespoon coriander powder

1/2 tablespoons turmeric powder

1/2 tablespoon red chili powder

1/2 tablespoon of  garam masala powder

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

Salt to taste

2 tablespoons of oil

1/2 cup of water

Coriander leaves for garnish


How to sprout the beans 

The first and most important step to making sprout curry is to sprout the beans one night when you want to make curry. You can use mixed beans to make sprouts curry at home, such as mug beans, moth beans, chickpeas, and lentils.

Wash the beans thoroughly 2–3 times with water and soak them overnight in water. Next morning, drain the water and tie the soaked beans in a cloth very tightly. Please keep it in a warmer place for two to three days until the beans sprout.

Making sprouts curry at home

Step 1: Heat two tablespoons of oil in the pan and add cumin seed and cook them until it becomes brown.

Step 2:add chopped onions into the pan and fry until it turns golden brown.

Step 3:Then add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, and ginger garlic paste and fry them until they become smooth gravy.

Step 4:Now add coriander powder, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Fry it for 1–2 minutes. 

Step 5: Add amchur powder to get that katta- meeta flavor (Optional)

Step 6:Add mixed sprouts into the gravy and salt to taste.

Step 7:Add 2 cups of water .let the curry simmer for 10–15 minutes on a low flame. 

Step 8:Garnish it with chopped garlic and coriander leaves.

How to make sprouts curry at home in the instant pot

Step 1: heat oil in the pot and add one tablespoon of cumin seeds and fry them until they sizzle.

Step 2: now add chopped onion and ginger garlic paste in the pot and fry them until it becomes light golden brown.

Step 3: add tomatoes and all the spices and stir it well.

Step 4: now add sprouts and 2 cups of water. Cover it with lid and set it at high pressure for 2 minutes.

Step 5: after pressure is released from the pot. Add two tablespoons of line juice and stir them well.

Step 6: take it into a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves.

Serving options

Most of the time I serve it with rice and is also served as a side dish with any Indian serve it as a complete meal to your family or friends, you can add potatoes, carrots, and peas into the curry.

Tips for Making Perfect Sprouts Curry

  • Use only fresh and good-quality beans for sprouting.
  • Do not overcook sports because they will lose their nutrients.
  • Add water as required to make curry at desired consistency.
  • Add spices to the curry according to your taste.
  • Garnish it with coriander, lemon, and finely chopped garlic for flavor and aroma.

5. Which dal is used for sprouts?

You can use any type of Dal in sprouts but most of the time i recommend to use Moong dal to every because it is easily available and easy to cook.
